Local stocks extend losses As on : 27-Aug-26  12:30

The key equity barometers traded with slight losses in morning trades. Nifty moved in a range of 24297-24134. Nifty Consumer Durables, Nifty Pharma and Nifty Healthcare Index shares gained, while Nifty FMCG and Nifty Media shares fell.


NIFTY slipped by 0.25% in last session and added 0.88% over last one-week.


At 12:15 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, posted modest losses of 268.96 points or 0.35% to 77,203.98. The Nifty 50 index lost 65.65 points or 0.27% to 24,142.10.


The broader market performed better than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index moved lower by 0.08% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index edged lower by 0.02%.


The market breadth was unfavorable. On the BSE, 2046 shares advanced and 2728 shares retreated. A total of 238 shares were unchanged.


Nifty Consumer Durables index edged higher by 0.57% to 40681. The index has edged up 3.37% in last one month and moved higher by 5.55% over last one year. Whirlpool India, gaining 3.92%, led the gainers followed by Amber Enterp., adding 2.25% and PG Electroplast, edging up 1.79%, respectively. Out of 13 index constituents, 9 are reporting gains today.


Nifty Pharma index inched up 0.26% to 26697. The index has posted modest gains of 2.62% in last one month and surged 21.08% over last one year. Zydus Lifesci., inching higher 2.06%, led the gainers followed by Laurus Labs, up 0.99% and Divi's Lab., inching higher 0.96%, respectively. Out of 20 index constituents, 13 are reporting gains today.


Nifty FMCG index inched down 0.51%. The index has eased by 4.66% in last one month and registered heavy losses of 15.90% over last one year. Emami, down 3.76%, led the losers followed by Godrej Consumer, edging lower 0.96% and Colgate-Palmoliv, losing 0.95%, respectively. Out of 15 index constituents, 14 are reporting loss today.


Asian markets posted modest gains on Thursday. China’s Shanghai composite is trading higher by 1.10%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is marginally lower by 0.35%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is slightly lower by 0.20%.


In Europe, German DAX edged up 0.36%, UK’s FTSE 100 edged lower 0.07% and French CAC moved up 0.27%.


In Commodities, MCX Crude oil declined 1.70% to trade at Rs 7,893 per barrel.
